LeishMan: Epilogue: 7 years post-bite

So Animal Planet filmed in August, 2011. I married Shalynn August 25, 2012. My “Monsters Inside Me” episode aired in October of 2012. But I actually had to do 2 more anti-parasite treatments, because the wound never healed.

I went to Costa Rica and spend a month in the jungle with a wound on my face. I got married with a wound on my face. I went to Equatorial Guinea to live in the jungle for two months, with a wound on my face.

I was bitten on January 8, 2011. I first noticed the wound on February 3, 2011. It finally healed in April, 2013.

I spent over two years of my life with a wound on my right cheek.

It’s hard to believe now, revisiting this saga in August 2018. I just returned to the Bolivian Amazon for the first time since that 2011 trip. Nothing to worry about. I’ve continued my career traveling, and Shay and I have been teaching a study abroad program in Patagonia for the last 3 years. No bugs down there.

Nothing but this beautiful world that still inspires me to explore. I hope this story only inspires others to do the same.
